Stanley began selling stories while a graduate student at Case Western Reserve University, where he completed his Ph.D. in physics in 1969. Since then he has written numerous stories and articles, along with four novels. (The reason that hsi first novel wasn't his first book is that, although The Sins of the Fathers had been serialized earlier, it didn't come out in hardcover until after Newton and the Quasi-Apple had appeared.)
Editor of Analog since 1978, he has been nominated 17 consecutive times for the Hugo for Best Professional Editor without yet winning the big prize. With luck he will manage to do so before Susan Lucci wins her Emmy. Stanley will be a Guest of Honor at BucConeer, the 1998 Worldcon in Baltimore.
