Julius Schwartz

Born: June 19, 1915 in the Bronx, New York

First Facts:
Co-edited the first science fiction fanzine, The Time Traveler [1932].
First literary agent to specialize in science fiction [1934-1944].
Helped organize the first World Science Fiction Convention in New York City [1939].
Won First Fandom Hall of Fame Award [1986].
Although Julie has numerous achievments in the field of science fiction, he's probably best known for his work as an editor at DC Comics starting in 1944. He is probably responsible for turning more readers on to SF than any other individual, editing DC's Mystery in Space and Strange Adventures; then starting in 1956, revamping and reintroducing many of the Golden Age characters that he had worked with, such as Flash and Green Lantern, adding many SF elements to the revised DC canon.
"Julius Schwartz is the only living legend in both science fiction and comics!" - Harlan Ellison
